Karen, Elise, and I took Nate for a meeting with his inspirational professor/adviser, Margrethe Lauber. It was, and still is a beautiful day – sunny, warm, more summer than spring and uncertainly not winter. Walking the campus of SUNY-Cobleskill with Nate, watching him run up hills, clearly at home at his college, I thought about how this kid has developed a real life outside of our family. Cobleskill is his turf, not ours.
I’m not going to go into too many specific details about what we discussed, for fear of the almighty jinx and, more importantly, to provide all my readers with a bit of a cliffhanger. We’ll have to experience the future together.
Let me just say that we are, and have always been, so fortunate to have people the quality of Lauber in our lives, people who see the brilliance in Nate and shrug off the quirks. As we discussed Nate’s artistic validity, I made it clear that he already has all the features of the classic eccentric artist. Lauber heartily agreed.
So, here’s the tease – great bits of marketing genius to bolster Nate’s proposed gallery show, a meaty discussion on the future of Alpha Folks, and amazing promotional ideas, one involving one of our favorite bands.
That’s all you get for now. In fact, that’s all you get until early April. I’m off to Brazil for a bit, and, when I return, Nate will be in the home stretch of his school career, ready to burst upon the world.
